Qualifications to Teach in the State of MarylandSt. Mary's College of Maryland is the only accredited college in the state of Maryland, which offers an online program in Applied Mathematics (Tutoring Catecnism of Applied Mathematics) with an integrated course that is focused on mathematics for tutors. The College will help students prepare for the Certified Tutor examination administered by the Board of Education of the State of Maryland.The Tutoring Center at the University of Costa Rica is a partnership between the school and a private organization based in San Jose, Costa Rica. Students who wish to become qualified to work as tutors are welcome to register and they will be taught by an international volunteer who will also supervise them. Coursework includes Mathematics, Scientific Proofs, Algebra, Probability and Statistics.According to the Qualifications Commission, the College of Instruction in the State of Maryland is authorized to confer degrees on the following subjects: Com munication Sciences, Mathematics, Professional and Technical Studies, Applied Mathematics, Teacher Education, Health Sciences, Physical Education and Science. When it comes to the qualification of the tutors, they must have at least four years of experience in teaching at a secondary school or during the semester study in an approved school or university in the United States or Canada.An essential part of studying at the Instructional College of the SSC is successfully passing the Certificate of Educational Leadership Examination-Certificate of Attendance Examination (COA). These examinations are conducted twice annually and include written, comprehensive examinations.There are several organizations that offer tutoring. If you would like to find out about them, you can contact the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to find out which organization offers tutoring that is approved by the state. Each county will decide its own policies regarding tutoring, but tutoring is widely accepted in the state.Tuition for teachers with the Certification to Teach and the Certified Tutor exam can be found at the Department of Education in Maryland. Students need to contact their local district office to find out which schools offer tutoring for teachers and what fee is applicable.Online programs are provided by tutoring services which are approved by the state. The online tutoring programs can be found at the College of Education in the state and all the registration processes for the registration period can be found at the College website.An Introduction to Applied Mathematics, a tutor certification course offered by the Tutoring Center of the University of Costa Rica, will help students prepare for the Certified Tutor examination administered by the Board of Education of the State of Maryland. This exam is conducted by the College of Instruction in the State of Maryland and it is open to anyone who wishes to take it. The exam includes two parts which are both practice exams.
